The opening of the air3331 art fair in Tokyo gave Simon and VIctoria an opportunity to meet some local artists and see air3331 at work. The air3331 space is a repurposed school on four floors comprising studios, meeting places, small independent galleries, cafe/bar and even a gym. It is clearly a community hub that gives artists the chance to make and she work and offers reasonable-rate spaces for small galleries and businesses.
The 2016 art fair, presenting at the same time as the mammoth Tokyo Art Fair, gave less well known artists a chance to show in a group show. What we found most interesting was that work by artists with special needs and also an artist engaged in working with children were just as much a part of the exhibition as everything else.
