Amanda Western

Hi, I’m Amanda Western. I use both contemporary and traditional printmaking to explore how we humans interact with the environment. A lot of my inspiration comes from living in regional and remote parts of Australia—places where I’ve found deep solace and connection in nature.

Before diving full-time into my art practice, I worked in Emergency Recovery, which is where I first saw just how powerful art can be in helping people heal from trauma. That experience led me to study Visual Arts at Oxygen College in Ballarat, where I fell in love with linocut printmaking—and I’ve been carving ever since.

These days, I’m lucky enough to serve on the Committee of Management for the Print Council of Australia, and I’ve had the chance to exhibit my work in a mix of solo and group shows. I also love bringing art into public spaces through large-scale murals.

In recent years, I’ve been honoured with some exciting recognition—winning the 2025 Queenscliff Art Prize Print Award, becoming a finalist in the 2025 Flanagan Award, and receiving the 2024 People’s Choice Award at the Sunshine Coast National Art Prize.

During the residency I aim to deeply explore and commence planning for a nature-based solo exhibition in November 2026.
