Your residency in the main residence comes with private room accommodation, a bathroom, a large bright co-working space with extraordinary views across tidal waters and access to a large library. Catering is DIY in your own small kitchen equipped with everything you need. All bedding and towels are provided. The main residence is ideal for one to two artists, but small groups/friends (up to 4) can come if you are willing to share rooms (4x single beds). Partners of visiting artists can be accommodated at an additional charge and by request only. The main residence spaces are is well suited to reflection, research, writing and co-creation. It’s perfect for researchers, makers and musicians to come together to create together or for individuals, such as writers, to work independently and come together to share their ideas and project progress with others if they wish. This residency is an opportunity for Professional Development - take time to reflect, strategise and develop new work. It may be that you are on your own in the space or there may be another artist present.

A 13 night residency in 2024/5 in the main residence costs AU$1500 - just over $100 per day. Additional people (two people sharing a room) costs an additional $700 for the residency.

A residency in The Shaper Studio gives you a completely independent 72sq m space suitable for a single or couple. It has a bedroom, kitchen living room and well-lit studio. There is a composting toilet and specially designed semi-outdoor shower. It has easy car access and is just 100 m from the main house. The Shaper studio is connected to the wifi of the main house enabling fast downloads and streaming and there are bluetooth speakers to play your favourite music. There is a wood-burning heater to keep you warm in the winter and a deck to hang out on in the summer. This creative space used to be the home of a surfboard-making business and was an early iteration of our neighbour’s Ridgeline Pottery.

The Shaper Studio is available for between 4 - 12 week residencies. Rates for the Shaper Studio vary according to the length of stay:

Two week rate: $650pw = 14 days = $1300, 1 Month rate: $525pw = 28 days = $2100 (+400 for two people). Ask us if you’d like to stay longer.

We can provide you with a creative space and nourishing environment for a group to learn and create together for up to a week.

These group residencies are co-designed with you to cater for you and your group’s needs and can be fully catered as well as providing accommodation if required. As these experiences are tailor-made just for you they priced individually..

If you are in residence with us then you can take 20% of the normal price of a creative coaching package and have three sessions for AU$480. This professional development of three one-hour sessions together with some resources will help you to develop a reflective practice approach to your work and also set some targets for the year ahead, look at new opportunities or simply develop a new way of seeing your work.

Where are you based?

We are on the Eastern Shore about 20 minutes from Hobart Airport.

What do I need to bring?

The residencies are self catering so you need to provide food. You have your own kitchen to cook. Bring layers of clothes, the weather can change here quite quickly especially in Spring and Autumn. Bring some walking books too. We have all bedding, towels and swimming towels.

Do I need a car?

Having a car really helps get the most out of your stay and enables you to pop to the local store (7km away) easily. There is SO much to explore around the area. However many of our artists don’t have cars and rely on the bus and cabs into Hobart, use our regular trips to the local stores to stay stocked up with food, or just settle down for a concentrated retreat with no distractions. It’s up to you!

Can I cancel?

If something comes up that you are unable to come we would prefer to move your dates to a later time that suits. However we understand sometimes circumstances change beyond your control when we shall issue a part refund.

Can I customise my residency?

We try and encourage residencies to start on Sunday and finish on a Saturday (13 nights) but we are flexible with arrival times, departure times and duration of your stay. Let us know what you need.

Just email us with the dates you’d like to come and we’ll get back to you straight away about availability and cost. After we have set the dates we’ll send you an invoice. Once you’ve paid 50% then the booking is confirmed. You don’t need to provide us with any proposals nor do we expect any specific outcome from your time with us. Once you’ve made your booking we would like a headshot and a bio for the website before you arrive.
