Scarlet's Fund event at Cranlana, Melbourne

The next Scarlet’s Fund event will be at Cranlana, Toorak on 26 November 2016 and we’d love your support.Two years ago we gathered at Cranlana, Sidney Myer’s home to launch Scarlet’s Fund. This year, thanks to the generous hospitality of Sally Lindsay, we invite you to join us again for a night of music, wine and food, to remember Scarlet and find out about the work of Scarlet’s Fund. 6.00 pm – 9.00 pmWe are especially excited to be exhibiting a suite of prints created and generously donated by 18 well known Australian print makers in response to W.H. Auden’s poem Musée des Beaux Arts (a favourite of Scarlet’s). These will be available for sale on the night.A set of these will be presented to the new ICU department of the Royal Melbourne Hospital who cared for Scarlet before she died.The Cranlana garden will be in full Spring glory and the red carpet will be rolled out.Cranlana was built in 1903 but was substantially extended and remodelled around 1929. Russian-born Sidney Myer, who founded the Myer Emporium store, lived in Cranlana until his death in 1934, leaving his wife Dame Merlyn Myer sole proprietor until her death 48 years later in 1982. Cranlana continues to be owned, maintained and occasionally opened to the public for fundraising events by the Myer family. We welcome donations made directly to Scarlet’s Fund, a sub-fund of Australian Communities Foundation.We will update you with further details in November.We hope to see you there!Simon, Victoria and GeorgiaScarlet Spain 14.4.1991 – 5.4.2012Scarlet was a musician, singer, writer and traveller and was a passionate believer in social justice – and a student at The University of Melbourne studying Arts. She squeezed an extraordinary amount into her life and was much loved by all who knew her. On March 31st, 2012, Scarlet fell through a roof at a party in Melbourne. She died of her injuries five days later on April 5th, just before her 21st birthday.Scarlet is the daughter of Simon Spain and Victoria Ryle and sister of Georgia (01.10.1993). This fund has been established by them in her name to support some initiatives that she would be proud of and to continue the tradition of bringing beauty through the arts to people, particularly in developing communities.
