Christopher Squier in residence
In December Christopher Squier came for a short retreat and spent some time making and planning new work. He also enjoyed visiting local sights. Below is a statement of his work from his site at https://christophersquier.com
REFERENCING CRIME SCENES, HORROR MOVIES, AND HISTORICAL MONUMENTS, MY WORK REASSEMBLES BROKEN AND FRAGMENTED MATERIALS INTO SCULPTURAL AND DIGITAL FORMS. THESE VISUAL ELEMENTS ARE EXTRACTED FROM HISTORICAL SITES, RUINS AND RELIGIOUS ICONOGRAPHY, BUT ARE RESTAGED WITHIN NEW SITUATIONS THROUGH PROCESSES LIKE SATELLITE IMAGING, 3-D ANIMATION AND PHOTOSHOP, PHYSICAL RELOCATION, AND MANUAL SMOKE-AND-MIRRORS PROCESSES. USING MIMICRY AND ISOLATED DESIGN ELEMENTS TO DISSECT POLITICAL AND GEOGRAPHICAL CONTEXTS, THESE INTERDISCIPLINARY WORKS INVESTIGATE EXPERIENCES OF LUXURY AND CRIME, UTOPIA AND DYSTOPIA.
